Imaginary Muslims
Uwaysi Sufis of Central Asia

Muhammad
In the Name of Allah.
It is said in the Sirah of Ibn Kathir Ad-Damishiqi (may Allah be pleased with
him) that Allah (Glory be to the One Most High) granted Sayyidina Sulayman
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) Prophethood and Kingship. He offered
the same to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) but he
chose servitude with Prophethood. Muhammad said, "Allah would have turned the
mountains into Gold for me but I prefer to stay hungry one day and satiated the
other." He preferred to be humble and pleading when hungry and grateful when
satiated.
Thus it is recorded in the Sirah of ibn Kathir. |

The tomb of Najm al-Din Kubra in
Konya Urgench in Turkmenistan
|
Najm al-Din Kubra (d. 618/1221)
Known as the "saint-producing shaykh" (shaykh-e vali tarash) on the grounds that
a number of
his pupils became highly regarded shaykhs themselves. Kubra is considered the
founder of the Kubrawiya order (tariqa). One of the branches of this tariqa, the
Nurbakhshi Kubrawi lineage, embraced Shi'a Islam and is named after Muhammad
Nurbakhsh. The largest existing branch of the Kubrawiya order today is the
Shi'i Oveyssi-Shahmaghsoudi order.

Human Culture as Personal Culture

Nahj al-Balaghah
Praise is due to Allah whose worth cannot be described by speakers, whose
bounties cannot be counted by calculators and whose claim (to obedience) cannot
be satisfied by those who attempt to do so, whom the height of intellectual
courage cannot appreciate, and the divings of understanding cannot reach; He for
whose description no limit has been laid down, no eulogy exists, no time is
ordained and no duration is fixed. He brought forth creation through His
Omnipotence, dispersed winds through His Compassion, and made firm the shaking
earth with rocks.
