A Brief Selection of Ayat and Jama-i-Sunni Hadith
Say: "travel
through the earth and see how Allah did originate
creation; so will Allah produce a later creation: for
Allah has power over all things..." (Al-Qur'an 29:20)
(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill,
or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from
days later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a
ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will
give more, of his own free will,- it is better for him. And it
is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew. (Al-Qur'an
2:184)
If ye are on a journey, and cannot find a scribe, a pledge with
possession (may serve the purpose). And if one of you deposits a
thing on trust with another, Let the trustee (Faithfully)
discharge His trust, and let him fear his Lord. Conceal not
evidence; for whoever conceals it,- His heart is tainted with
sin. And Allah Knoweth all that ye do. (Al-Qur'an 2:283)
O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged,
until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of
ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until
after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey,
or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in
contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for
yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and
hands. For Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again.
(Al-Qur'an 04:43)
When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye
shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you...
(Al-Qur'an 04:101)
Then there came a caravan of travellers: they sent their
water-carrier (for water), and he let down his bucket (into the
well)...He said: "Ah there! Good news! Here is a (fine) young
man!" So they concealed him as a treasure! (Al-Qur'an 12:19)
"Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the
night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one
amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered."
(al-Qur'an 15:65)
We sent an inspiration to Moses: "travel by night with My
servants, and strike a dry path for them through the sea,
without fear of being overtaken (by Pharaoh) and without (any
other) fear." (Al-Qur'an 20:77)
Now when Moses had fulfilled the term, and was travelling with
his family, he perceived a fire in the direction of Mount Tur.
He said to his family: "Tarry ye; I perceive a fire; I hope to
bring you from there some information, or a burning firebrand,
that ye may warm yourselves." (Al-Qur'an 28:29)
Say: "Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate
creation; so will Allah produce a later creation: for Allah has
power over all things. (Al-Qur'an 29:20)
Say: "travel through the earth and see what was the end of those
before (you): Most of them worshipped others besides Allah."
(Al-Qur'an 30:42)
And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the
ocean, (tall) as mountains. (Al-Qur'an 42:32)
Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. (Al-Qur'an 84:19)

Narrated Ibn Umar
The Prophet said, "A woman should not travel for more than three
days except with a
Dhi-Mahram (i.e. a male with whom she cannot marry at all, e.g.
her brother, father,
grandfather, etc.) or her own husband.)"
-Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Aisha
"When the prayers were first enjoined they were of two Rakat
each. Later the prayer in a
journey was kept as it was but the prayers for non-travellers
were completed." Az-Zuhri
said, "I asked 'Urwa what made Aisha pray the full prayers (in
journey)." He replied, "She
did the same as 'Uthman did." -Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar
Allah's Apostle forbade the people to travel to a hostile
country carrying (copies of) the
Qur'an. -Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Sahl bin Sad
Allah's Apostle said, "In Paradise there is a tree so big that
in its shade a rider may travel
for one hundred years without being able to cross it."
-Sahih Bukhari
Narrated AbudDarda'
Kathir ibn Qays said: I was sitting with AbudDarda' in the
mosque of Damascus. A man
came to him and said: AbudDarda, I have come to you from the
town of the Apostle of Allah
(peace be upon him) for a tradition that I have heard you relate
from the Apostle of Allah
(peace be upon him). I have come for no other purpose. He said:
I heard the Apostle of
Allah (peace be upon him) say: If anyone travels on a road in
search of knowledge, Allah
will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The
angels will lower their wings
in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the
inhabitants of the heavens and
the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness
for the learned man. The
superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of
the moon, on the night when it
is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs
of the Prophets, and the
Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge,
and he who takes it takes
an abundant portion. -Sunan of Abu Dawood
